Catch Phrase and Feet Washing...

Why hello friends, I don't know if you remember that I am a blogger because that's how freakin' long it has been!

Let's talk about how I literally forgot the password to my blog. Like, forgot. But no fear because I had it written down in my journal. Probably because that's how well I know myself, well enough to make a note of my blog log-in in my journal.

In other news, last weekend (which feels like forever ago) our McMinnville Young Life family went on a retreat to Lincoln City on the Oregon coast. Let me just tell you, the house we stayed in looked like the Pottery Barn summer beach collection threw up. Honestly, I felt like I should be wearing white linen pants 24/7. Needless to say, it was beautiful! What a blessing to get away in such an amazing environment and spend some much needed time Acts 2:42-in' it up!

If you're a Young Life leader, you know of this (most times) mystery group of people called "committee". You've maybe met them once or twice, you might even know one or two of them? But for the most part there are the leaders and the committee and not a lot of time spent together. So what a cool opportunity to go on a weekend trip with them!? Not that I was thinking "this is going to be an amazing experience" when we were about to leave McMinnville. You could say I was less than excited for a weekend away when I was SLAMMED with homework, but... I went, and I'm extremely glad I did.

We had another amazing couple join us upon arrival to walk us through some studies in agreement between believers throughout the weekend. It was really really great, don't get me wrong, but my favorite memories from the weekend had nothing to do with the studies. They had everything to do with hanging out with our awesome committee members. On Saturday, because we woke up so early we went to go get coffee in the afternoon and then came back and played some of the most intense game of catch phrase of my entire life. There were times where we were crying laughing and flicking each other so much crap (mainly me flicking it to the other team). It was the best!

On Sunday morning we woke up at the un-Godly hour of 7am to eat breakfast (which meant Sydney was dragging me out of bed at 7:15 because everyone was waiting on me - CLASSIC). But although my attitude wasn't really great about getting up that early, the morning the followed blew my mind.

If you've never spent anytime reading the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) in the Bible, you probably don't know the significance of believers washing each others feet, so let me briefly explain. Right before Jesus goes to be crucified, He hangs with His friends and humbles Himself to do one of the lowest jobs around at that point in time: wash their feet.  So let's think about this, we are talking Israel thousands of years ago where feet are probably all nasty from just not ever really having proper shoes for any job. Especially fishing! So when Jesus went to do this, it was a big deal. He was telling His disciples that He was willing to do whatever for them because he loved them. To the point of being crucified for them.

So on that sunday morning, the committee had planned to wash each of the leader's feet.

When the Brisbin's came over to me and Claudia knelt down and began to wash my feet I was absolutely overcome with humility and when Mike began to pray over me I almost lost it. When it was over, when they both sincerely looked at me and told me they "had my back" it was most definitely one of the most special moments of my life. I could not ask for a better image of what the body of Christ should look like.

That's what is important though, loving people and spending quality time.  I'm thankful that Jesus has called me to a ministry with some many people who I get to love and so many people who love ME. I can hardly count the massive blessings I was reminded of last weekend but more so how thankful I am.

God is good, all the time.

xoxo
Brea
