Student staff and Peter stepping out of the boat.
Well hello friends,
I've been getting an overwhelmingly positive response to this blog so, I just wanted to take a sec and say THANK YOU to my readers. It's crazy flattering that you take the time to read my sporadic thoughts. You guys are da best!
Recently, I've been getting a lot of questions about what the heck I'm doing with Young Life this year. So I'd like to clear that up for ya, okay? Sweet.
So my exact title is "student staff" that means I'm a college student (yes, I'm back in school as well) and I'm on part time Young Life staff. It also means I'm in charge of all things high school Young Life in McMinnville. I do leader care and recruitment, plan leader meetings, and heading up the plans for club. Which is a lot but when you're as passionate about this ministry and the people in it as I am, it's the best job on the planet.
Young Life staff has pretty much been my dream since I fell in love with this ministry as a senior in high school. It's crazy exciting that I'm on the path to becoming an area director! I'm so blessed that Jesus has called me to this. If you know me, you know I'd do anything to follow Jesus but this has taken some serious boldness as I have to raise 100% of my own salary. Which means I'm essentially in the next couple days going to be calling, meeting with, and sending letters to people asking them to donate to my ministry and become a vital part of Young Life in McMinnville. Can you even imagine how crazy it is to sit down with people and ask them for money? I mean, I know it's what it takes to follow Jesus, but still.
It reminds me of the story in Matthew 14 when Jesus calls Peter out of the boat. This is Jesus calling him, Peter knows that. But he's uneasy of exactly what Jesus is calling him to do, and that's walking on water. Like, doing the impossible! And if you've ever planned to sit ask 45+ people for money that kind of seems like the impossible as well, trust me. But Peter gets out of the boat, just like I'm going for it. Where Peter goes wrong is he starts looking at the waves and panics. He looses sight of the one who's making this all possible, who called him: Jesus. With Jesus miracles happen and the impossible is possible. So at this point, I'm stepping out of the boat, I'm doing what I thought was the impossible. But I'm trying as hard as I possibly can to avoid what Peter did and fix my eyes on the one who's called me to this, who has created me for this, who will get me through this: Jesus. As hard as this next few weeks might get, I'm faithful that The Lord will provide, He does has a divine plan, and I will be stretched and grow in my faith, and I will (metaphorically) walk on the water to Him.
With that said, I'm starting my asks and mailing my newsletters out THIS WEEK! Will you be praying for me in this? I would appreciate it more than I could ever articulate.
xoxo
